Larry K. Sabin, 74, of Westgate, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa with Rev. Herbert Mueller, III officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 1st, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate.
Larry Kenneth, son of William and Lydia (Koelling) Sabin, was born October 7, 1939, at Westgate, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Westgate. Larry received his education in the Parochial School at St. Peter and graduated from Maynard High School in1957. On October 18, 1964, he was united in marriage with Diean Gaede at St. John Lutheran Church, Spring Fountain of rural Sumner. Larry worked for Ted Rueber Feed & Grain for a time, Culligan Soft Water for eight years, Colonial Bakery in Cedar Rapids for twenty-five years, and the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for five years. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate, and served on the Westgate Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking care of his lawn, and feeding the squirrels and birds.
In addition to his wife, Diean of Westgate, he is survived by a sister, Martha Tellin of Oelwein; a brother Vern (Verla) Sabin; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton and Dale; a sister, Lorene Schellhorn; and an infant sister.
